Incident #08-01539 on 02 November 2008.

Received report from Hopkinton Police for a residential building fire. Upon arrival E-1 reported heavy fire showing from the "A" side and C-1 established Meserve Street command. Two (2) 1 3/4" preconnected hand lines were deployed to the "A" side primary access door with a third deployed to the "B" side access door. A 4" line was handlayed and charged from E-1 to the hydrant near 17 - 19 Meserve Street. E-1 and E-2 personnel entered the structure performing fire knockdown and primary search. E-2's personnel discovered the victims remains approximately six - eight (6' - 8') feet inside the "A" side access door immediately adjacent to the coal burning stove, see incident photos. Rescue 1's crew laddered the roof from the "A" side and provided vertical ventilation. At this time command was notified of the victims location and disposition and a decision was made not to move the victim until investigators from the Fire Marshal's investigative unit arrived on scene. Southborough was assigned as the incident RIT and Milford and Ashland resources were utilized in suppression and overhaul. The three hand lines were utilized to knock down the remaining fire and perform extensive overhaul. The house was very cluttered which led to extensive and lengthy overhaul by personnel. Two representatives from the Coroner's Office arrived and removed the victims remains from the scene. Representatives from the Fire Marshal's office arrived on scene and assisted Chief Daugherty in the cause and origin investigation. The preliminary cause of the fire was listed as "accidental" and the investigation not completed as of this report being drafted centered around the coal fired stove and/or smoke pipe being a possible cause. A fire detail consisting of a Lieutenant and one fire fighter remained on scene with E-4 until hours.
